It made me laugh., it made me cry, it made me want a cocktail!

It made me laugh., it made me cry, it made me want a cocktail!

TL:DR - One of the funniest books I've read in ages!

There was so much about this book that caught my interest even before I started reading: the epistolary style (in text message form), the age and life stage of our main character (30s divorcée) and the perfectly witty intent of the story. Three 'I already think I'm going to enjoy it' boxes ticked right there. And it delivered on all of my high hopes - and more.

We Follow divorced Clodagh as she lives her newly-single life to the max, writing a tongue-in-cheek self-help book based around the concept of a cocktail being the cure for all life situations. Right from the off I was chuckling at her various text conversations, and I didn't stop laughing throughout (the Google searches, in particular, were a highlight) but also shed a few tears. I do love a book that can affect the reader across the gamut of emotions. There are some content warnings, which I have included in my review of this on Storygraph, if anyone wishes to check them.

The format lends itself to a very speedy read, and I read it in less than 24 hours, not wanting to put it down when I did pick it up. Days later, I am still thinking about how much I enjoyed this! 100% recommend.

Disclaimer. I was gifted a copy of the book, with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are my own.
